Curriculum, Assessment and Research

Mission

To assist local school districts and the Oregon Department of Education in improving student learning through curriculum-related innovation, inquiry, and professional development.

Core Commitments

  • To exemplify collaborative and responsive leadership and service
  • To foster the integration of policy, research, and practice
  • To assure timely communication to and from our varied constituencies
  • To engage in continuous improvement of our programs and services

Willamette Curriculum Coalition (WCC)

The main vehicle for carrying out the department's work with local school districts is the Willamette Curriculum Coalition (WCC). The coalition brings together ideas, talents, and resources across districts to help schools better prepare all students to reach high standards. WCC is guided by a leadership team of teachers, principals, and curriculum directors representing each of the 18 member school districts and 3 state schools. WCC's main focus is providing locally responsive and high-quality professional development programs to enhance teaching and learning.

Title III English Language Learner Consortium

The CAR department also provides coordination and staff support for the WESD’s Title III ELL Consortium, which serves 13 districts in Marion, Polk and Yamhill Counties. This consortium helps school districts to foster English language learners’ proficiency in English and mastery of challenging academic content. Professional development and technical assistance are the major forms of service provided through the consortium.

Statewide and ESD Projects

The Curriculum, Assessment, and Research Department does work under contract with the Oregon Department of Education, such as operating regional scoring centers for statewide assessment and carrying out policy-related research and writing projects. Furthermore, the department conducts research and evaluation activities for the Willamette ESD as a whole, including the design and analysis of the annual ESD program evaluation survey.

Target Groups Served

Curriculum, Assessment, and Research provides services to local school districts, special state schools, the Oregon Department of Education, and the Willamette ESD as a whole.
