The Willamette Regional ESD is committed to the establishment of an electronic
communications system for the advancement and promotion of learning and teaching.
The following policy is an attempt to ensure the safety of staff, students,
parents and computer systems while providing the opportunity to utilize networking
technology and Internet in enhancing the educational process.
ESD computer network accounts may be available to ESD students and staff,
subject to the following conditions
A student under the age of 18 unless emancipated may use computer
networks only with written permission of his/her parent or other person
in parental
relationship.
Use of computer networks to promote or participate in unlawful activities
is prohibited.
Users of ESD computer networks are required to obey laws and
legal agreements
governing copyrights.
The ESD may suspend or revoke the access of a user to
the computer network and Internet if the user violates the ESD Code of
Policies and Rules.
Disclaimers
The ESD does not make any warranties, expressed or implied,including,
without limitation, those of merchantability and fitness for a particular
purpose,
that the functions or services performed by or the information or software
contained on the system will meet the requirements of the system user.
The
ESD does not warrant that the system will be uninterrupted or error
free.
The ESD system will be provided on an as is available basis.
The ESD
does not warrant that identified defects will be corrected.
The ESD
will not be responsible for damages or liability resulting from a system
user divulging his/her personal or system information.
Inaccurate and/or
objectionable material.
The ESD system may provide access to other electronic
communications systems that contain inaccurate and/or objectionable
material.
Parents or other persons in parental relationship of a student
are expected to monitor the student's home usage of the ESD system.
Opinions, advice, services, and all other information expressed by
system users, information providers, service providers, or other third
party individuals
in the system are those of such individuals and not of the ESD.
The ESD will
assume no responsibility or liability for any membership or telephone
charges including, but not limited to, long distance charges, per minute
or unit charges, and/or equipment or line costs incurred by any home
usage of
the ESD system.
A system user may order services or merchandise which may
be accessed through the ESD system from an individual or agency outside
the ESD.
The Superintendent is directed to establish procedures that
will provide safety for students, staff, parents, and other persons
in parental relationship, and
for the computer systems, and that will provide opportunity for students
and staff to utilize networking technology and Internet to enhance the
educational
process.
