Video Conferencing at Willamette ESD
Willamette ESD provides scheduling and meeting services to our regional school districts and state agencies, partnering with Oregon State University's MeetMe Conference Services (OSU/MCS) to provide video connectivity through their Video Conference bridges. WESD also provides IP Video Conferencing services to other agencies and the public for a fee.
WESD's Marion Center, located at 2611 Pringle Road in Salem, Oregon, has 4 rooms available for Interactive Video Conferencing (IVC), with accommodations for groups of any size between 1 and 75:
- Our Polk Room is our smallest room and seats up to 15 people comfortably. It uses a Polycom Viewstation SP unit attached to a Panasonic Plasma Flat Panel Display.
- Our Marion Room can accommodate up to 45 people and uses a Polycom 7000SX unit attached to a ceiling-mounted projector.
- Our Oregon Room seats about 25 people comfortably. It has a Tandberg 880 Video Conferencing system, utilizing two ceiling mounted projectors and a document camera. All of these systems have connections for your laptop as well as having self-contained PCs for your use.
- Our Largest room, the Willamette Room, seats between 50-75 people. The system in the Willamette Room is a Tandberg 880 Video Conferencing unit. This system is equipped with two Plasma displays, a self-contained PC and a PA system.
Scheduling a Video Conference
If you would like to use the video conferencing equipment at WESD:
- Schedule your request at least 48 hours in advance.
- Contact Jayne Frey at reservations@wesd.org or call 503.385.4504 for room reservations.
- Register online, contact David Gibson at video@wesd.org or call 503.385.4780 for IVC scheduling. When contacting David, please have the following:
- Your name
- Your phone number
- Email address
- Your agency / SD / etc.
- Title of conference or meeting
- Date(s) of video conference
- Time (from/to)
- Room assignment from Jayne Frey & number of people attending
- Origination site if not Willamette ESD
- Participating sites: contact, phone, email, E164 number and IP address of video conferencing unit*
Please note: reservations for rooms, room setup or video conference reservations cannot be altered by anyone other than the person(s) who originally reserved the room. All changes must go through Jayne Frey. Requestor is required to make all room reservations with other sites if you are the origination site. All connecting sites must be H.323 compliant.
* - Oregon State University provides bridging for connectivity; all parties intending to connect must register and test their connection with OSU's MeetMe Conference Services (MCS) at 541.737.8723. OSU/MCS will verify that your system is compatible and set up correctly.
About Video Conferencing
Video Conferencing is the technology of sending point to point and multi-point video and audio over IP utilizing the H.323 protocol. This technology is being used to connect students and staff to resources such as other schools and districts for classes (distance learning), professional development, and virtual field trips around the globe. It is also being used for administrators and staff to connect with other administrators and/or groups for meetings, reducing travel expenses and travel time. These are just a few examples of the power of IVC connections.
