Migrant Summer School
WESD/Migrant Education Region 16 program will serve approximately 300 migrant students (ages 3-22) during the summer of 2012. Targeted students for the program include the following:
- Priority for Service (Students that have had an educational interruption during the school year and during the previous twelve month window and/or the student has failed to demonstrate proficiency and/or meet state academic standards.)
- Recent arrivals from other countries
- Students with low literacy skills
- Secondary students at risk of not graduating from high school
- Students with low first language literacy skills
- Students with poor attendance
Based on the above identified criteria, students are referred by their classroom teachers to summer school programs using the referral process established by WESD/Migrant Education Region 16 program.
Program Dates: July 12, 2012 - August 10, 2012
Program Sites:
- Silver Falls SD - Robert Frost Elementary
- Greater Albany SD - TBD
- Cascade SD - TBD
Program Services:
Linguistically and culturally appropriate services will be provided through the following components:
- Instruction provided bilingually
- Instruction will focus on Oregon Migrant Education State Service Delivery Plan's measurable program outcomes which include, school-readiness, reading, mathematics, and high school graduation
- Bi-national teachers as cultural resource specialists
- Reading Is Fundamental (RIF)- Each child will select two books to take home
- Share Literacy Promotion
- Parent night
- USDA Food Service Program-breakfast, lunch and a snack
- Dental and health programs
