Special Programs At-Risk Educational Programs The goal of the Willamette ESD’s At-Risk Education Programs is to equip each student with the academic, behavioral, and social skills necessary for them to be a positive and successful member of their school and community. In cooperation with the seven local school districts within Yamhill County and other local agencies, the Willamette ESD provides education programs for students’ at-risk of school failure within traditional classroom settings. The At-Risk Education Programs are designed to serve students with significant academic, social, and/or behavioral difficulties who are in need of specialized services, and settings to be successful in school. Student’s access At-Risk Education programs via a referral from their resident school district. The programs are designed to provide a unique set of services to meet specific needs of students enrolled. Eligibility Students become eligible for the At-Risk Programs though a referral process from the student’s resident school district. Each Yamhill County School District has a specified number of placement/slot options that are available to them. When a school team feels that the At-Risk Education Programs would be most appropriate for a student, then a referral is made to the Willamette ESD’s Program Coordinator and meetings are set to discuss using the programs as a placement. Services Provided The intent of the At-Risk School Program’s curriculum and services is to provide each student with a positive and successful academic experience. To that end, the program utilizes multiple, and flexible, instructional strategies within small classroom and community settings. Academic Instruction Essential academic instruction necessary for students to achieve the Certificate of Initial Mastery (CIM) Benchmarks and complete home district graduation requirements is provided. Instructional strategies include individual, small group, and technology based instruction. Specialized Academic Instruction Remedial, specially designed (special education), and functional academic instruction is provided according to individual student need. Social/Behavioral Instruction Social skills and strategies to manage and be responsible for behavior are provided through direct instruction as well as infused throughout the curriculum and program structure.
