Discovery Academy
Welcome to Discovery Academy: A New Recovery High School for Oregon Students
Willamette Education Service District (WESD) is excited to announce Discovery Academy, one of three newly approved recovery high schools launching in Oregon this year. Established with the support of House Bill 2767, these schools offer secure, ongoing funding to provide students statewide with access to abstinence-focused recovery education. Recovery high schools like Discovery Academy serve students in recovery from substance misuse or co-occurring disorders. This need is especially urgent as Oregon currently has the 3rd highest rate of adolescent substance use disorder in the nation, with Oregon teens being 38% more likely to use drugs than their peers nationwide.
Discovery Academy will offer a full high school curriculum, including a range of electives and required core courses, leading to an Oregon diploma. Discovery Academy is unique because it focuses on students who actively choose recovery. Here, they’ll find a supportive community that values their commitment to sobriety and growth. Students will have access to coordinated support from drug and alcohol counselors, mental health providers, and external agencies to help them maintain a healthy, sober lifestyle.
Discovery Academy is a school choice program for students who want to pursue recovery alongside their education, surrounded by a community of peers with similar goals. Located at WESD’s Northgate Center on Portland Road in Northeast Salem, Discovery Academy is set to open in spring 2025.
