K–12 Literacy
The WESD provides comprehensive, evidence‑based literacy support designed to strengthen reading and writing outcomes across all grade levels. Grounded in the science of reading and aligned with state frameworks, our approach incorporates explicit instruction in phonological awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, and writing—while also supporting disciplinary literacy and language development.
Our team partners with schools and districts to build capacity through:
- Professional learning
- Instructional coaching and technical assistance
- Support for curriculum adoption and implementation
- Workshops on evidence‑based literacy practices and progress monitoring
- Guidance on MTSS‑aligned literacy interventions and data use
We offer both free and paid professional development opportunities, ensuring educators can access high‑quality support tailored to their needs. Our goal is to empower teachers, strengthen instructional systems, and help every student become a confident, capable reader and writer.
