Indian No More Take-Home Literacy Kit

The take-home kit with the book ‘Indian No More’ was created to support cultural learning, family connection, and pride in Native identity. There are five different activities connected to the book Indian No More by Charlene Willing McManis (Umpqua) and Traci Sorell (Cherokee), which follows Regina Petit and her family as they experience federal termination policies, relocation, and the ongoing strength of community and culture. The activities in this kit were created to help students deepen their understanding of the book while creating opportunities for meaningful conversations at home. Each activity is designed to help students explore culture, history, and identity in a hands‑on, meaningful way. This kit is best for ages 8 or older.

Activities in the kit include:

  • Family Story Sharing Night
  • Cultural Heritage Recipe Project
  • Family Timeline Creation
  • Community Connection Exploration
  • Read-Aloud and Discussion Questions

Contact Tiffany Keppinger at tiffany.keppinger@wesd.org to request a kit.
