End of year letter from WP Coordinator, Gretchen Brunner

Gretchen Brunner As we end the 5th year of the Willamette Promise program, I want to express my gratitude to the educators, business partners, staff, and students, who took a chance on a new way of doing business. Since 2014 the hundreds of educators and industry partners involved in this complicated and important work, have allowed for more than 8,000 students in 43 school districts across Oregon to earn over 50,000 credits, saving families more than 8 million dollars. More than 30,000 students in grade school, middle school, and high school have explored career options and even more have visited Oregon colleges and universities.

These students are underrepresented and underserved, first generation college going, and new to experiencing this kind of success. They are high achievers and students who struggle. They all are finding advantages in their path with the support of the amazing people who are a part of this program.

Educators are learning about industry- industry is learning about education. We are learning and growing together to make post-secondary education and training real, tangible, and attainable for all students. Together we are changing the way students look at their future. We are inspiring a generation of youth who will continue to grow in Oregon’s communities.

I am proud to be part of a program and agency that does all this. I am proud of all of you who have taken the leap and become a part of the Willamette Promise and this incredible journey. Thank you for changing the way we do business, taking that leap, and being a part of the Willamette Promise ADVANTAGE.
