Consulting and Training

Support is provided to the district educational team on a variety of topics, including:

• IEP/IFSP development
• Curriculum adaptation
• Environmental modifications
• Communication development
• Social skills
• Self-Advocacy skills development
• Vocational/career skills development
• Daily living skills

A variety of workshop opportunities are provided, including topics directly related to understanding Autism, appropriate instructional strategies, and behavioral support options. District teams and Regional Autism Specialists work together to assess training needs and prioritize topics. Guest speakers are available to support identified areas of concern.

WESD Autism Cadre

WESD Autism Cadre is open and free to any of our regional district partners (Marion, Polk, Yamhill Counties) who work with this special population. Cadre meetings are offered monthly and offer opportunities for training and teaming for professionals (Autism Specialists/Consultants, SLPs, School Psych's, OT' and PT's, etc.) who are working in the field of Autism. Meetings are typically from 8:30 am to 11:30am on the third Friday of the month (September through May). While we encourage members to join us in person at our main office in Salem, most meetings are offered in a hybrid format for those who would like to join virtually. Our topic schedule will be posted by September 8th, 2025 for the 2025-2026 school year.
